There is still snow on the ground here in Michigan, even though it’s already March. Some days are still cold and nasty outside, so a perfect time to post some fun and inexpensive ideas to do with kids inside – while you’re still waiting for Spring.
1. Family Movie Night
Our favorite one, and we do this once a month, is a family movie night. We all go out and pick out our favorite movie theater candy. Then we pop up some popcorn and head down to our basement rec area. We currently have a couple of streaming channels so it’s usually easy to find a movie, but with an Amazon Prime membership you also have the ability to rent most movies for a small amount. My son is always excited to get to pick out the movie. Then we all cuddle on the couch with lots of blankets.
2. Go to your local Museum
Another idea is to head to your local museum. We have several located in West Michigan to choose from, with our local one being free admission and lots of fun things for kids to explore. Depending on your location, you may be able to find free or discounted admission for kids.Â
One of our favorite museums to visit is The Air Zoo in West Michigan. Admission is not free, but reasonable and includes all of the exhibits and indoor rides they have. Note to anyone that goes on the airplane ride – if you’re 5’10” good luck fitting in the seat!
3. Head to your local Library
Three years ago, we got my son Luke a library card and obviously love being able to get books. Our library has an awesome play area for kids, and they have weekly events. At least once a month they have a themed event for kids. Last month they had a treasure hunt set up complete with Pirates and a talking parrot.Â
4. Bounce House Activity Center/Trampoline Park
Luke loves going to the bounce house fun centers and the trampoline parks. These are obviously going to cost more to do, but we have been fortunate enough to ask for experience gift cards to our local activity centers for Christmas and Luke’s Birthday. Because of that most of our visits have been pretty much for free, besides picking up a snack here and there.Â
5. Get Outside at the Park
I know, I said things to do inside but you may feel like us once March rolls around and just ready to be outside. Sometimes on days that the sun is out, we just put on our snow gear and head outside. We usually pack some snack and hot cocoa to keep us warm and then head to our local park or our Nature Center to run around. The hot cocoa and snow gear is usually enough to keep us warm for a few hours.Â
Hopefully Spring is almost here, but in the meantime write a comment to tell me what indoor activities you like to do with your kids while you’re waiting for warmer weather.
